TRUST IN THE PROCESS ~ BELIEF IN THE JOURNEY ~ FAITH IN THE FAMILY
Head Coach: Stephanie Egan | segan@nda.org
Assistant Coach: Kevin Egan | kevin.egan@utoledo.eduÂ
Our first coaching responsibility was pee wee CYO cross country 12 years ago and we immediately loved sharing our knowledge of running with all athletes of all ages and helping them master the craft of training for and racing cross country. This is our fourth year coaching together NDA cross country and every year we are tweaking our team and individualized training plans to facilitate all athletes in achieving their potential as racers.
Our four-word coaching philosophy is honesty, trust, strive, and journey. Honesty in a supportive environment leads to trust. Control what you can; your attitude and effort and then trust the process. Good vibes are contagious and we are an Eagle family that has enthusiasm and support for each other. We have found this to be key to achieving your best for yourself and your team. Love the training and race day is a celebration of all the striving and effort.
Kevin has been running and racing for over 30 years starting in junior high and high school, culminating in leading a state championship team in my senior year for Waukon, Iowa. After high school Stephanie and Kevin competed together for a small college in Pella, Iowa, Central College. After earning his Ph.D. in economics from Iowa State University, the Egans moved to Toledo in 2005 when Kevin was hired at the University of Toledo as faculty in the economics department. "It is a great pleasure to be a running family and coach with Stephanie and also be head cheerleaders for our two sons Sage and Kaed who are also cross country and track athletes. Other than family and running, I also enjoy mountain biking and disc golf."
Stephanie has also been running since high school, in Boone, Iowa where she was a 8-time individual state qualifier. Four years in cross country and 4 years in the 3,000m race in track where her best finish was 5th her senior year in the 3,000. Stephanie has been coaching at the high school level here in Toledo for the past 9 years. "I started coaching because I like sharing my passions with others in the hope that it inspires them. I also believe that there are not enough female coaches out there, to inspire and guide young women in athletics. Young women need strong female leadership and role models to guide them. I aspire to be that for the young athletes that I have the privilege to coach.
